How to Set Up IPTV on Apple TV, iPhone and iPad

Install a player from the App Store
On Apple TV, open the App Store and search for the player named in your activation email. On iPhone or iPad, install the same player from the iOS App Store. Everything here comes from Apple's own store, so there is no sideloading and no developer setting to change.

Open the player and choose to add a playlist
Most tvOS players present a choice between an Xtream Codes style login and a playlist URL. Your activation email specifies which format we supplied, and the two are not interchangeable.

Enter the server URL, username and password
Type each field exactly as written in the activation email. Entering text with the Apple TV remote is slow, so consider using the Apple TV Remote in Control Centre on your iPhone, which lets you type on the phone keyboard instead.

Wait for the catalogue to load
The first load takes one to two minutes on an Apple TV 4K. Subsequent launches are considerably faster because the channel list is cached locally.

Connect Ethernet on the Apple TV if available
Apple TV 4K models include an Ethernet port. Using it is the single best thing you can do for live sport, and it makes the Apple TV the most stable device in this entire guide series.

Test a live channel for ten minutes
Play something with fast motion and watch for ten minutes. If this is clean on an Apple TV 4K over Ethernet, your setup is as close to trouble-free as IPTV gets.
Apple is the most constrained platform in this series and, once set up, the most reliable. Everything comes from the App Store, there is no unknown-sources setting and no downloader app, and the hardware is comfortably ahead of anything else at this price point. The trade-off is a narrower choice of players and a considerably higher purchase price.
Install on the Apple TV, not on the iPhone
If you own an Apple TV, install the player on it directly rather than AirPlaying from an iPhone. AirPlay adds a re-encode and a second wireless hop, which increases latency and introduces stuttering that would not otherwise exist. Install locally and the stream goes straight to the television.
AirPlay is genuinely useful for showing something briefly on the big screen. It is a poor way to watch three hours of live television, and the buffering people attribute to the service in that configuration is usually caused by the AirPlay path itself.

Using an iPhone as a diagnostic tool
An iPhone on mobile data is the best troubleshooting device in the house. It removes your home Wi-Fi and your router from the equation entirely, so if a channel plays cleanly there and stutters on the television, the fault is local and you have saved yourself an hour of guessing.
Keep the player installed on a phone even if you never watch on it. When something goes wrong on a Saturday evening, that two-minute test tells you more than anything else you could do, and it is the first thing our support desk will ask you to try.

The remote's on-screen keyboard makes credential entry slow and error-prone, and mistyped credentials are the most common setup failure across every platform. Open Control Centre on an iPhone on the same network, tap the Apple TV Remote, and type on the phone instead.
